Roberto L. Abreu, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida (UF). His research explores ways in which Latinx family and community members navigate relations with their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) members. Specifically, Dr. Abreu’s research explores the influence of Latinx cultural values and beliefs (e.g., familismo, respeto, caballerismo, machismo, marianismo) on the acceptance of Latinx LGBTQ individuals. He has expertise in advanced qualitative methodologies, including publishing in multiple peer-reviewed journals using different qualitative research approaches. As a bilingual (English and Spanish) Latinx professional, he conducts research with both English- and Spanish-speakers. rabreu26@ufl.edu
