Nadia Koltcheva, PhD, is a psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Cognitive Science and Psychology at New Bulgarian University, Sofia, Bulgaria. Her academic and applied work spans developmental psychology, developmental psychopathology, educational psychology, and psychological assessment, with a strong emphasis on assessment instruments construction, translation, adaptation, and standardization. Her research interests focus on child development, interpersonal relationships, social and emotional competencies.
Since 2012, Dr. Koltcheva has conducted research within the framework of Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory (IPARTheory). Since 2017, she has been an International Affiliate at the Ronald and Nancy Rohner Center for the Study of Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection, University of Connecticut. Her work advances IPARTheory through empirical research, cross-cultural studies, and psychometric development. She has translated, adapted, and validated multiple IPARTheory-based instruments for use with Bulgarian populations and initiated the development of the Organizational Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire – Control (OARQ/C). She served as President-Elect (2020–2022), President (2022–2024), and Past President (2024–2026) of the International Society for Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection (ISIPAR).
Dr. Koltcheva has participated in and led numerous national and international research and applied projects within the funding of Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, UNICEF. She is among the key researchers involved in the development of the Screening Test for Children Aged 3 to 3.6 (officially recognized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science for national use in preschool education), as well as the National Standards for Early Childhood Development and Learning (0-3 years).
She is the national representative of Bulgaria in the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA); an expert at the National Alliance for Early Childhood Development, Bulgaria; a member of the European Network for Social and Emotional Competence (ENSEC), Network of Experts on the Social dimension of Education and Training (NESET), the Bulgarian Psychological Society.
