Associate Professor


Brien K. Ashdown, PhD., Associate professor of psychology. His main research interests focus on cultural influences on the social development of adolescents and young adults. Specifically, he is interested in how cultural variables influence and are influenced by group identities and attitudes, religion and religiosity, sexual attitudes and behaviors, and interpersonal acceptance and rejection. As a cross-cultural psychologist, a large part of his research focuses on Latin America, and in particular Guatemala. In recent years, he has involved many of his undergraduate students in his research on IPARTheory, and they have co-authored conference presentations and journal articles on the topic.
